Alexander Keith and Jose Weiss


The Keith Weiss Aviette of 1912

English-based artist Jose Weiss. Beginning in 1909 /1910, he made a series of flying wing gliders and powered aircraft, all based on the same bird-like wing configuration. His work lead on to the the first successful designs made by Handley Page. Probably the best source of information about Weiss and his designs can be found in the Peter Lewis book British Aircraft 1809 - 1914, published by (amongst others) Funk & Wagnalls, New York in 1968.

The first aircraft here the Aviette, was human powered and tailless. The above note and follwing images were kindly forwarded by Paul Dunlop from New Zealand
