Notes: Ok, so I made a few flights with my Mini-Wisp today. Rather than just show you one flight time, let's show that it's reliable, too! 127, 130, 145 Yes, that's over two minutes on three separate flights. I could get longer, but that would require some right rudder which would cause it to start turning right towards the end of the climb. I could afford that in a larger site, but this one's pretty narrow and would risk loosing it to the walls. The plane's only climbing about 15' up, and that's under a 30' ceiling, so I know I'm loosing a lot of flight time. The model buzzes around at eye level for about 30 sec before climbing away. I'd say that's 20' of altitude being wasted. Jun comments : Fabulous flights, Joshua, congrats. These were presumably in the 3" class, so you've extended your own 3" record. A couple of things bout your flight pattern puzzle me. (1) Why would you think about adding right rudder, which is of course the oposite of the usual indoor trim? Is it to open up the turn toward the end of the flight? (2) Why would the plane buzz around at eye level for quite a while before climbing? You'd expect the launching torque to shoot the model up vertically (and sometimes aerobatically), which is the usual flight pattern with very small indoor models. Jun, I'm using a single-hole bearing, so I have to use the flight surfaces and CG for all flight trim. The plane assumes a VERY steep left bank during the power burst, so it won't climb. The only way to fix this is with opposite rudder (washin doesn't help...has been known to cause aerobatics, even). If I ever get the motivation to build a new one, I'll make some changes, including a double-hole bearing, so that these trim problems will go away. All things considered, it's really an easy plane to fly. It's just that I like to use full power.
Good flying,

BEST SCORE JOSHUA FINN Mini 10 316
Joshua Finn notes: For optimum performance of the 'Mini-10' cabin use a 5-6" folding prop. The fuselage on this design is really a bit to narrow. The motor tends to bang around in there far too much. Very long flights are possible, even in dead air. Max time appears to be around 2:30-3:00. Jim Moseley's model is much more practical and reliable. The Mini-10's downfall is the fact that it is a very twitchy model. It's also a bit overbuilt. Jim's model is more consistent and requires less power. Blown up to a larger size, the Mini-10 would probably be much better.

BEST SCORE ANDY MITAS TenStick 280
Andy Mitas notes: The 'Ten Stick' uses flying surfaces from a Peck ROG, with a standard indoor airfoil (about 7%). All flying surfaces are 1/16" square. Fuselage is 1/8" x 3/16" and tapered behind the hook. It is about 2 inches longer than the original ROG fuselage. I made trim tabs for the stabilizer from bits of tracing paper. Covering is condenser paper. The prop is 6" Ikara and would have worked better with about 2 degrees of downthrust. Entrant Times (Best) Score

Joshua Finn notes: The 'Duplex 10' is nothing more than a Duplex 8 with a larger wing. The chord was kept the same. The model worked better with a larger stab, though. It flew quite well, but didn't like wind. It was covered with c-paper.

BEST SCORE JOSHUA FINN Triangle 8 55
Joshua Finn notes: The 'Triangle 8' is a great flyer. The first used a tissue-coverd fuse and a 4" carved prop. but I lost it during testing when it flew over a building. When I lost sight of it, it was about 30 feet up and had been aloft for 40 sec. The replacement was the same expect for a c-paper covered fuse and a smaller prop. Neither of these changes improved performance. If anything, they reduced performance. The c-paper didn't add enough stiffness to the fuse, and the prop required really small rubber. I think the best flight was around 1:20. The model is very capable, but could definitely be improved upon. Entrant Times (Best) Score

BEST SCORE ROLF CHRISTOPHERSEN Micro 6 Skinnycat 45
Rolf Christophersen notes: I built most of my little TRUMPers from the Chuck Marcos design of the CLG 'Easy Mini' crossed with Jun's 'Skinny Cat' p1, p2] (variation on the Dick Baxter 'Big Pussycat'), the best stick body I have ever made. It just climbs, will not stall, and ROGs like a champ. Mine was set up with a mylar, free wheeling prop. I made a cabin fuselage, a profile, and stick body, all rubber power versions of the glider/profile cross. Some of these are posted in my TRUMP photo album.Entrant Times (Best) Score

Joshua Finn notes: The The data on this one is in the files section. It was a pretty good flyer. Best flight was over three minutes under a 25' ceiling. Weight couldn't have been more than .15 gram, maybe half that. My scale wouldn't weigh it. I'll try to write something up on the Mini Wisp later. It's not a really stable plane. The prop needs some work.
